The Construction Of 2 Bridges In Metro Manila To Be Fund By China To Address Traffic Woes

China’s financial grant to fund the construction of two bridges to resolve the traffic issues in Metro Manila was welcomed by Malacañang Palace.

Currently, the Philippines is facing a serious problem regarding the traffic issues in the country, especially in Metro Manila. The government and other private sectors were already making efforts to resolve the traffic woes.

Recently, China granted to covers the design and the construction of the two bridges in Binondo Bridge in Metro Manila and Estrella-Pantaleon Bridges in the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong, according to Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella.

The Embassy of China in the Philippines Economic and Commercial Counselor Jin Yuan and the Public Works Secretary Mark Villar have already signed the agreement, according to Abella. He also said that the bridge will have a length of 807 meters and consisting four lanes based on the initial design of the project.

The infrastructures of the bridges were among the four bilateral pacts signed by the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and China’s President Xi Jinping last May 2017. China has also offered P3.6 billion to the Philippines to conduct numbers of projects.

P3.6 billion has been offered by China for the infrastructure of the drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation center, bridges crossing the Pasig River, conducting a feasibility study, and other projects under the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation.

President Duterte has expressed his gratitude and thanksgiving towards China because of its generosity to the Philippine during his state visit to Beijing. “We have always been very thankful to China for its generosity,” said by Duterte quoted by Manila Bulletin.

Both China and the Philippines agreed to improve the cooperation between the two countries on energy, human resource development, and information and communication during the state visit of President Duterte to Beijing.
