LAGOS, Nigeria – Government said a “mysterious” disease that kills patients with just 24 hours killed 18 people in southeastern town, Saturday.
Ondo state health commissioner Dayo Adeyanju said that already 23 people were affected and 18 of them are already dead as of record.
Earlier, government spokesman Kayode Akinmade gave 17 dead counts since the “mysterious” disease broke out this week in Ode-Irele town.
Akinmade further explained that the symptoms of the “mysterious” disease include headache, weight loss, blurred vision and loss of consciousness. He also added that the laboratory test have so far ruled out Ebola or any other virus with regards to the case.
Meanwhile, the World health Organization said the information it had counted 14 cases and at least 12 died. WHO spokesman Taril Jasarevic also confirmed the symptoms aforementioned adding that investigation was on going.
Health officials and experts both from government and aid agencies as well as WHO epidemiologists had arrived in the location in search for answers and the cause of the disease.
Samples and fluid had been taken from victims for investigations.
