Chito Miranda initially had a different title for ‘Mang Jose’ song
Parokya ni Edgar vocalist Chito Miranda revealed the story behind their song Mang Jose which was initially titled Raimusen.
The famous Pinoy band released the said song in 2005 and was hailed as the Best Novelty Recording and Music Video of the Year by the Awit Awards. It was part of their album Halina Sa Parokya.
In a recent interview, based on the article in Bandera, Chito shared that it was Buwi Meneses, their bassist, who presented the music to him after they were commissioned to create a song for the online video game Ragnarok.
PNE’s contemporary Kamikazee also created the song Chicksilog for the said online video game. “Buwi came up with the music and asked me to come with the lyrics,” Chito Miranda shared.
Initially, the band’s frontman thought of using Raimusen, a combination of Japanese words, as the title of the song. “So nu’ng ginawa ko yung song, it was originally ‘Raimusen! Raimusen! Ang superhero na pwedeng arkilahin. Raimusen, parang si Daimos din. Ngunit pagkatapos ay bigla kang sisingilin…Raimusen,’” he shared as he cited the lyrics of the song.
However, their lead guitarist Darius Semaña suggested replacing Raimsen with Mang Jose to make it more Pinoy. At first, Chito was against Darius’s suggestion because he really thought hard about the title he created.
“Pero eventually, I was convinced. So reluctantly, I agreed,” the band vocalist said. The song was a big hit. The song also had its comics version. Eventually, a movie was created starring comedian-singer, Janno Gibbs.
This year, Chito Miranda established a restaurant and he named it Mang Jose that features “inasal” and “lechon.”
