Defined Terms In Geometry (Answer To This Question)

What are the defined terms in Geometry? Check out the answers below.

DEFINED TERMS IN GEOMETRY – In Geometry, there are several terms left identified such as the point, line, and plane but the rest are defined.

A very broad branch of Mathematics is Geometry – a subject that deals with “properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs” according to an online definition. The word “Geometry” comes from the Greek words ā€œgeā€ meaning ā€œearthā€ and ā€œmetriaā€ meaning ā€œmeasuring.ā€Ā

Defined Terms In Geometry

And in this subject, there are three words left undefined such as point, line, and plane. But the descriptions of these words are below:

  • point – a location with no size
  • line – something that infinitely extends in any direction without a definite widthĀ
  • plane – it infinitely extends in two dimensions

Apart from these words, the rest are defined, and here are some:

  • Collinear Points
    – points that lie on the same line
  • Coplanar Points
    – points that lie on the same plane
  • Parallel Lines
    – lines in a plane that do not intersect
  • Perpendicular Line
    – lines that intersect forming a right angle
  • Midpoint
    – a point that divides a line segment into two equal parts
  • Angle
    – a figure that has one common point formed by two rays
  • Right Angle
    – an angle measuring 90 degrees
  • Vertical Angles
    – made of two angles wherein the sides of an angle are the opposite rays of the sides of the other angle
  • Adjacent Angle
    – two angles that have a common vertex and common side
  • Linear Pair
    – two adjacent angles where their non-common line is forming a straight angle
  • Supplementary Angles
    – if the sum of two angles is 180 degrees
  • Complementary Angles
    – if the sum of two angles is 90 degrees
  • Angle Bisector
    – the ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles
  • Segment Bisector
    – a point, a line, or a segment that divides a segment into two congruent parts
