Viral Esplanade Video Reportedly Affecting Mental Health of Female College Student
The mental health of a college student who was allegedly involved in an inappropriate act with her boyfriend at Esplanade 11 has reportedly been affected.
The mental health of a 17-year-old girl is reportedly affected after a video believed to show her and her boyfriend engaging in intimate acts at Esplanade 11 in Barangay Progreso, Lapuz, Iloilo City spread on social media.
According to authorities, the emotional impact of the incident has become a growing concern. Police said the teenager has been struggling since the video circulated online. Her 18-year-old boyfriend is also reportedly experiencing emotional distress as a result of the public attention and criticism surrounding the incident.
Authorities are urging the public to stop sharing and reposting the video. They stressed that continued circulation only adds to the emotional burden faced by the young individuals involved.
Police officers and social workers were able to speak with the teenage girl and her family. However, they were unable to meet with their boyfriend because he was not at home when authorities visited.
The City Social Welfare and Development Office is expected to provide intervention and support services for the minor to help her cope with the situation.
Meanwhile, the family of the 17-year-old girl is reportedly determined to pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading the video online.
Legal experts explained that the individuals seen in the video may face possible legal consequences depending on the findings of authorities and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Potential violations may include offenses related to acts considered offensive to public decency when committed in a public place.
Lawyers noted that people who recorded and especially those who distributed the video could also face legal liability under the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 or Republic Act No. 9995.
