Cebu Politician Encourages Private Businesses & Grocery Stores to Donate to Community Pantries
A Cebu politician is encouraging the grocery stores in the city to donate to community pantries amid coronavirus pandemic.
Cebu City Councilor Alvin Dizon urged the private sectors, church, government and even grocery stores to donate to community pantries as a support to the less-fortunate people affected by the health crisis.
Dizon said that those who have the capability to donate should give as a form of support to the individuals who were sharing what they have to community pantries. He said that grocery stores could also put up their own pantry.
“More people, who are struggling at this time, can reach through the pantry project if this is scaled up with the national and local governments setting up institutionalized food banks and with private businesses pitching in to help,” Dizon said.
The city council is requesting big businesses, and food manufacturers to share goods and surplus food products to community pantries. The politician is hoping that big establishments would share their blessing during this time of crisis.
“We urge the barangays to extend all help and support to community pantries especially on the aspect of crowd control and compliance of basic health and safety protocols to ensure that this kindness project is sustained at this time of great need,” Dizon added.
