Senator Lito Lapid Seeks 6 Months Imprisonment For Customers Cancelling Food & Grocery Orders
Senator Lito Lapid filed a bill seeking to punish individuals of up to six months imprisonment over repeated cancellation of orders.
The lawmaker filed Senate Bill 1677 seeking one month and one day up to six months punishment for customers who will cancel food and grocery order repeatedly for unjustified reasons.
The bill sets a limit to customers of three order cancellations per month. Customers who will exceed at the limit would be charged a fine not exceeding P100,000. The bill aims to protect the riders who usually end up shouldering the payment of unclaimed items.

The proposed bill also mandates service providers to impose a reimbursement scheme for the riders in case customers would cancel orders. Delivery companies would fail to implement the scheme would be also charged a fine not exceeding P500,000.
“Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon lalo’t nasa gitna tayo ng pandemya, lahat naman tayo ay gustong kumita. Kaya humahanga tayo sa mga gaya ng service riders na gumagawa ng paraan para kumita sa legal na paraan at malaki pa ang naitutulong nila para hindi na lumabas ng bahay ang ating mga kababayan,” Lapid said.

Lito Lapid explained that the measure would prevent pranks, fake bookings, order cancellations, and no-show customers. It would also require customers to submit proof of identity and address.
“Kaya para masiguro na hindi na sila maloloko pa ng mga biglaang pagkansela ng order, dapat masiguro na ang mga umoorder ay magbibigay ng totoong pangalan at address,” the 64-year-old lawmaker added.
