Released GCTA Convicts Fears For Their Lives Says Senator Gordon
Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) – convicts released under the GCTA law who have completed their sentences are fearful for their safety due to the inexact list of criminals under GCTA from Bureau of Corrections.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) presented its list of over 1,900 released heinous crimes convicts under the GCTA law since 2013. During A senate hearing, Senator Gordon said the list had errors.
Gordon emphasized this by pointing to the insertion of Janet Lim Napoles in the list. Napoles was convicted of plunder but is allegedly charged with rape on the Bureau’s List.
Based on the hearing uploaded by the Senate of The Philippines, Gordon stated that the list from BuCor would not pass. He said that 197 of around 800 convicts released under GCTA contained wrong information.
The 800 heinous crimes convicts were released during Nicanor Faeldon’s run as BuCor Chief. Faeldon has also been recently fired by Duterte.
The Senator also mentioned that the list did not include convicts with commuted sentences. Gordon cited the case of convict Warren Zingpan.
Zingpan was charged for the death of Dennis Venturina. The victim was a law student from the University of The Philippines killed by rival fratmen.
Gordon then said that police would be searching for those people. He added that authorities would order them to return to prison because of the list.
Senator Gordon also stated that even though they have served their sentence, they are scared to be killed. In relation to this, Ramoncito Roque said the list was made hastily.
Roque added that they rushed that list. He then said that they didn’t check the list because they had to go to a press conference in Palawan.
Gordon then told Roque that what he said was not a valid excuse. He then added that Roque should have taken care of their list.
Afterwards, the Senator told Roque that the fire they’re in is becoming bigger. He then added that the public is losing trust in the government because of their poor work.
