Duterte Makes Surprise Inspection At NAIA After Reports Of Flight Delays

DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Duterte made a surprise inspection at NAIA following reports of delayed and canceled flights.

Due to the lightning and bad weather, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) decided to delay some flights.

Malacañang spokesperson Salvador Panelo expressed his disappointment during his arrival at the Manila airport from Japan on June 1.

Salvador Panelo called the attention of Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal about the carousels and the poor air conditioning system at the airport.

Aside from that, he and his companions spent two hours waiting for their luggage.

In a previous article, the Palace spokesperson gave some suggestions to help improve the management at NAIA.

Based on a report from GMA News, President Rodrigo Duterte made a surprise inspection at NAIA on Monday morning, June 10.

After he heard about the delayed flights and cancellations, he decided to go to the NAIA Terminal 2 in Pasay City and meet with some officials.

According to the report, President Duterte was accompanied by Ed Monreal, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Director General Captain Jim Sydiongco, Davao Businessman Sammy Uy, and incoming Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez.

The president asked the officials about the delayed and canceled flights. He also wanted to know if they have prepared for flight diversions and incentives to the passengers for their inconvenience.

President Duterte expressed his apology to the passengers and promised that this will be fixed within a month.

The manager of Philippine Airlines and NAIA Terminal 2 manager briefed Duterte about the delayed flights and said they will do their best to fix the situation.

“The Chief Executive discussed how flight aberrations could be minimized and what actions could be employed by the government, particularly the Department of Transportation, to solve the problem in the long term,” said Palace.

Based on the report, the Davaoeño politician took a break at one of the food stalls at the airport after the inspection.
