Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Davao Occidental, July 22, 2026

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.1 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, July 22, 2026. Here are the details.

Following the previous strong earthquake in General Santos that was initially recorded at 7.0 magnitude, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit the province of Davao Occidental. It has a strong magnitude of 5.1.

The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental today, July 22, 2026, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 05.21°North, 125.51°East – 024 km South 25° East of Balut Island in the Municipality Of Sarangani. It had a depth of focus of 016 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake neither aftershocks. No intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. The following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:

Intensity I

  • Malungon and Maasim, SARANGANI
  • T’Boli, SOUTH COTABATO
  • Palimbang, SULTAN KUDARAT

Intensity II

  • Malapatan, SARANGANI
  • CITY OF GENERAL SANTOS

Intensity IV

  • Sarangani, DAVAO OCCIDENTAL
