New Low-Pressure Area Intensifies Into Tropical Storm Jongdari

The state weather bureau PAGASA announced that the new Low-Pressure Area (LPA) has intensified into Tropical Storm Jongdari.

On Wednesday (July 25, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the low-pressure area spotted near Luzon’s northern tip has developed into a tropical storm.

The weather disturbance enhances the southwest monsoon, which would affect the weather system over Luzon and Visayas.

Tropical Storm Jongdari

Tropical Storm Jongdari has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Jongdari was last located at 1,515 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon and not expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The ‘Habagat’ enhanced by the tropical storm would bring light to moderate rains over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa and Western Visayas.

PAGASA also said that the extension of the tropical storm and the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains over Bicol and Eastern Visayas regions.
