Michael Christian Martinez Fails To Be On Top 24 of Winter Olympics Skating Competition
MICHAEL CHRISTIAN MARTINEZ – Filipino figure skater Michael Christian Martinez failed to make it to the top 24 of the men’s short program figure skating at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Previously, an update that Michael Christian Martinez has already done performing in the 2018 Winter Olympics held in Gangneung, South Korea was posted. Based on a report, out of the 17 skaters that had performed in the morning, the Filipino figure skater ranked 15.
Michael’s triples and landing on a triple Axel got him a score of 55.56. There were still 13 figure skaters left to perform by then and only the top 24 will advance to the Olympics free skate round.
Many Filipinos undeniably prayed and hoped that Michael Christian Martinez will make it to the top 24.
Based on a recent report in Inquirer, the result is already out and Michael Christian Martinez finishes 28th in the men’s short program figure skating. Unfortunately, he can’t advance to the free skate round of the Winter Olympics 2018.
According to the report, all the skaters were led by Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan with a score of 111.68 and he is followed by Javier Fernandez of Spain and Shoma Uno of Japan with the scores of 107.58 and 104.87 respectively.
Meanwhile, the Filipinos are still very proud of the performance of Michael Christian Martinez in the Winter Olympics 2018. He did great even though he only had a limited time to practice and compose himself again in the skating arena.
Based on a recent article in Reuters, it was already less than a month when Michael got the call to Winter Olympics. According to him, prior to it, he has already retired from skating. He was even surprised and he initially rejected the call to Winter Olympics.
“They told me Michael, you’re going. I was like, no way,” the Filipino figure skater shared after his short skate on Friday.
Based on the article Michael Christian Martinez admitted that he does not know how he was able to get his jumps back. He shared that he really go on a diet as he really gained weight since he focused on body-building.
“I had to lose my muscle, I had to lose my weight… I did not eat,” he said.
Meanwhile, Michael Christian Martinez is very happy with the opportunity to join the Winter Olympics. He is also grateful that he was able to introduce skating in his tropical country.
