Amid the Flood Control Issue, Interior Secretary Remulla Speaks on Marcos Jr. Admin’s Commitment to Accountability
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla vowed that all those who are guilty over the flood control mess will be jailed on 2026.
The flood control mess brought thousands of Filipinos in the streets last September 21 to protest against corruption. Several known individuals in the Philippine showbiz industry also joined the rally. It was called as the “Trillion Peso March”.

This November 30, another rally as part of the “Trillion Peso March” is set to be held. According to Akbayan, President Bongbong Marcos allegedly has to explain over the supposed massive corruption under his administration but they won’t also let Vice Pres. Sara Duterte benefit from the call for accountability.
Several senators, congressmen, and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) were implicated in the flood control issue. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had a change of leadership.

Presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker amid the corruption allegations against him over the flood control projects of the government. According to him, he stepped down so the Independent Commission for Infrastructure can fully exercise its mandate to investigate.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI was created upon the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. It has already submitted a recommendation to the Office of the Ombudsman for the filing of charges over some flood control accused.
Recently, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla reiterated the commitment of the Marcos Jr. administration to push through with full accountability on those who will be found guilty over the flood control mess in the country. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the DILG Secretary stressed that they will allegedly be behind the bars by 2026.

“Makakaasa kayo na ang gobyerno ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ay hindi umaatras sa hamon na ang mali, nagkamali at nagnakaw, lahat sila makukulong nitong 2026,” Interior Secretary Remulla said.
The DILG Chief was speaking at the Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines (VMLP) 29th National Convention in Manila. Based on the report, he stressed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains firm in the fight against anomalies over the flood control projects funded by the government. He called for unity among the vice mayors as he emphasized that good governance begins at the local level.
“Iisa lang ang pananaw natin: pagandahin ang ating bayan, ang ating lalawigan, ang ating bansa,” Remulla said.
However, amid his claims, Pres. Bongbong Marcos and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez was tagged by Zaldy Co into the supposed corruption issue in the government. Co, a former representative of Ako Bicol Partylist, is one of those who are accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control deals.
