The eruption was captured by the IP camera at the Lower Masulog observation station. It also triggered pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) descending the southern upper slopes within one kilometer of the crater.

Alert Level 2, or increased unrest, prevails over Mount Kanlaon.

Residents and tourists are advised to stay away from the four-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), while aircraft are urged to avoid flying near the volcano’s summit due to possible risks from ash and volcanic debris.

Canlaon City Mayor Jose Chubasco “Batchuk” Cardenas stated that all rescue vehicles are on standby for possible evacuation following this eruption event. Moreover, the mayor added that the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) also closely monitors the situation and is working with barangay officials to safeguard the residents’ safety.

Kanlaon is still under close monitoring, and the nearby communities are encouraged to remain alert for any signs of increased volcanic activity.

On Thursday, October 23, two ash emission events at the summit crater of Kanlaon were also recorded, and these events lasted from 26 minutes to 119 minutes. It also released sulfur dioxide flux measured 1,196 tons. This event generated grayish plumes that rose up to 600 meters above the crater before drifting west-southwest.

The first emission occurred from 5:30 AM to 7:29 AM, while the second happened from 7:39 AM to 8:05 AM.
