Stage and film actor Cocoy Laurel dies at the age of 72.

Nora Aunor’s former love team partner, stage and film actor Cocoy Laurel, died at the age of 72, based on a post from the Facebook page of the late Celia Diaz Laurel.

Victor D. Laurel is known in the industry as Cocoy Laurel. He was a stage and film actor. Three months after turning 72, he died, and his death was confirmed and announced by his family on Monday.

According to the announcement, he died on Saturday, June 14. This was made through the Facebook page of his late grandmother Celia Laurel, which is managed by his family. The cause of Cocoy’s death was not revealed.

“It is with deep affection and grateful faith that we entrust our dear brother, Victor, into the hands of our almighty Lord God, Creator, and Savior,” the post read. It added that the actor was dedicated to his faith in God through his “music and artistry” and his generosity toward others.

About the actor

He is the son of the late former Vice President Salvador Laurel and Celia-Diaz Laurel, a singer and theater actress. He is the uncle of singer-actress Denise Laurel and the brother of the popular 80s singer Iwi Laurel.

On Instagram, Denise confirmed the news as well and wrote, “He graced the world with his world class talent, his saint like kindness, his massive heart filled with love for everyone ,generosity and his unwavering faith. His voice — one that moved so many hearts and lifted spirits — now leading the heavenly choir, singing praises before the throne of the One he served so deeply reunited with his friends and family.”

He was born on March 2, 1953, and his father used to serve during the administration of Cory Aquino, the former president.

Cocoy was the former love team of Nora Aunor, and he was there during the wake for the late superstar and National Artist. Together, they appeared in the films “Lollipops and Roses,” “Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka,” and “Impossible Dream.”

He studied in prestigious institutions, such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) and Juilliard School in New York and The Facultad de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Among his biggest roles in theater were the Engineer in “Miss Saigon” and Jean Valjean in “Les Miserables.”

He was also a painter and pursued his dream of being a painter in Madrid, Spain.
