Lady Passenger Treats Poor Elderly Man on Bus
A lady passenger received mangoes from an elderly man whose bus fare she had paid for while traveling to Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Recently, Maria Ruela Jane Blanco, a Facebook user, shared a photo of the mangoes she received from the elderly man after treating him to a free ride. Her post quickly went viral and drew reactions from netizens online.
According to Blanco, she noticed an elderly man riding the same bus while carrying a sack of freshly harvested mangoes. Wanting to help, she quietly approached the conductor and paid for the man’s fare without expecting anything in return.
After learning that someone had covered his ticket, the elderly passenger became curious about who had helped him. When he found out it was Maria, he immediately sat beside her and expressed his gratitude.
Jane then opened his small pink bag and handed her several mangoes as a token of appreciation.
The elderly man shared that the mangoes came from trees he had planted himself. He also recalled how he used to give mangoes to bus drivers and conductors as a simple way of thanking them for their kindness and service.
Although the bus fare only cost around P30, the bunch of mangoes he gave was worth much more. However, for Maria, the real value was not in the fruit but in the kindness and gratitude that came with it.
Before reaching his destination, the elderly man said goodbye and went on his way. As Maria looked through the bus window, she saw him sharing some of his mangoes with a bus inspector as well.

“While I was on my way to Cadiz, I saw tatay ridding the same bus with a sack of mangoes. So I approached the conductor and paid for his ticket.
Tatay asked who had paid for him, and then he came and sat beside me, immediately opened his cute pink bag, handed me a bunch of mangoes, and keep saying thank you.
He then told me, “Salamat kaayo, Ma’am. Gabayan ka sa Ginoo ug ilayo ka sa mga dautang butang, imoha nani tam-is na kay señiorita”
The mangoes were planted by him. He also shared na sauna he used to give mangoes sa conductors and drivers as a simple gesture of gratitude.
His ticket cost only 30 pesos, yet ang bunch of mangoes he gave me was worth much more. When he reached his destination, he said, “Una lang ko, Day.” As I watched him through the window, I saw him give some mangoes to the inspector as well.
Indeed, God is good. Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness return to us in the most unexpected and beautiful ways .
