PAGASA Says Typhoon Chedeng to Affect PH Weather Condition

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Typhoon Chedeng will bring rains over some parts of the country.

On Friday (June 9, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Typhoon Chedeng will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that Typhoon Chedeng was last spotted 875 kilometers east of Central Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

“Chedeng is likely reaching its peak intensity within the next 24 to 36 hours due to marginally favorable environmental conditions,” PAGASA said.

Chedeng may bring heavy rainfall over the country in the next three to five days. It is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

 “It is forecast to begin its recurve by slowing down and turning towards the north today, then gradually accelerate north-northeastward tomorrow. On Sunday, Chedeng will be accelerating further while moving northeastward over the sea south of Japan,” the weather agency explained.

The southwest monsoon or locally known as habagat will bring cloudy weather condition with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan.

Habagat and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather condition with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

“The southwest monsoon (habagat) may be enhanced by Chedeng and bring occasional rains over some portions of southwestern Luzon in the next 3 days,” Pagasa added.

Meanwhile, Visayas, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, the northern portion of Palawan including Kalayaan, Calamian, and Cuyo Islands, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Camiguin will have gusty wind conditions.

The weather agency has warned the residents in the affected areas for possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
