PAGASA: Severe Tropical Storm Chedeng May Turn Into Typhoon

PAGASA Releases Latest Weather Update for Thursday (June 8, 2023)

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Severe Tropical Storm Chedeng may intensify into a typhoon as it moves towards Philippine Sea.

On Thursday (June 8, 2023), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Severe Tropical Storm Chedeng will affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA reported that Chedeng was last spotted 1,090 kilometers east of Central Luzon packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

The weather system maintains moving in the west northwest direction at a speed of 10 kph. However, it will not directly affect the country within the next three to five days.

“Although the current forecast scenario for this tropical cyclone may result in the enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon, the timing and intensity of monsoon rains over the country (especially in the western portion) may still change due to the dependence of monsoon enhancement on the forecast movement and intensity,” PAGASA said.

The southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan.

“Posibleng lumakas ito bilang typhoon by tomorrow early morning. Pagsapit naman po ng weekend Sabado hanggang Linggo inaasahan na kikilos pahilaga at hilagang silangan itong si bagyong Chedeng habang nanatiling malakas as a typhoon,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

The southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather condition with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
