Alan Peter Cayetano Faces Fresh Criticism After Ping Lacson’s Sharp Remark

Ping Lacson Mocks Alan Cayetano as Senate Leadership Battle Heats Up

ALAN PETER CAYETANO – Political tensions inside the Senate continue to rise as Senator Ping Lacson delivered a stinging message directed at Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.

Senator Ping Lacson took a swipe at Senator Alan Peter Cayetano amid the continuing leadership dispute in the Senate regarding the position of Senate President.

In a pair of posts on X published on Sunday, June 7, 2026, Lacson questioned Cayetano’s standing as Senate President, citing several institutions and personalities that allegedly no longer recognize him as the leader of the chamber.

“The Executive Department, House of Representatives, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, law deans , law professors, former Senate Presidents and many others do not recognize Senate Alan Cayetano as the President Senate. So, what is he?” said Lacson.

The remark came as tensions continue to escalate within the Senate following recent developments that deepened divisions among lawmakers.

In a subsequent post, Lacson intensified his criticism and appeared to mock Cayetano’s actions amid the ongoing controversy.

“When you’re strong on the law, pound the law. When you’re strong on the facts, pound the facts. When you’re weak on both… Mag-Facebook live ka na lang!” Lacson said.

The exchange stems from a growing power struggle inside the Senate that has split senators into opposing factions. The conflict became more apparent after the minority bloc conducted a session attended by Senator Chiz Escudero, who had been absent from Senate proceedings for several days and came from the majority bloc.

As a result of the session, the Senate moved to vacate the position of Senate President Pro Tempore. Senator Win Gatchalian was subsequently elected to the post and was later declared acting Senate President.

The developments have added another layer of uncertainty to the leadership situation in the upper chamber. Before the Wednesday afternoon session, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano served as Senate President, while Senator Loren Legarda held the position of Senate President Pro Tempore.

The dispute has drawn attention from various sectors, with political observers closely monitoring how the Senate leadership issue will ultimately be resolved. Meanwhile, Lacson’s remarks have further fueled public discussion surrounding the legitimacy of the competing claims to the Senate presidency and the chamber’s future direction amid the ongoing political standoff.
