JM de Guzman Opens Up About His Darkest Struggle
JM DE GUZMAN – A deeply emotional confession from JM de Guzman has touched fans after he revealed a painful chapter in his life.
Actor JM de Guzman opened up about a deeply personal struggle he faced before accepting the TV5 series My Bespren Emman, revealing how the project became a turning point in his life. During the show’s grand mediacon held at Cities Events Place on Wednesday, April 22, the actor shared that he was going through a difficult phase when the role was first offered to him.
“I lost my relationship with God and this show helped me reconnect with Him. Naalala ko ‘yung pumunta si Direk Derick (Cabrido) sa condo namin (at) kinukuwento niya ‘yung istorya, ‘yung karakter, backstory iyak lang ako nang iyak.
“Kasi nataon na kailangan ko talaga sa buhay ko ngayon. Kailangan ko si God, kailangan ko si Emman sa buhay ko ngayon,” JM said.
Despite having recovered from some of his past struggles, JM admitted that challenges still linger, sometimes making him question if he would ever fully break free from them.
“Nu’ng dumating si My Bespren Emman, si Mateo (karakter niya) ay parang nagkaroon na ako ng enlightenment, nagbago lahat ‘yung pananaw ko ulit.
“Parang na-realize ko lahat na ‘yung mga pinagdaanan ko noon, depression, anxiety, ay ni-lead ako dito to prepare me for this show,” the actor said.
In an intimate interview following the mediacon, JM was joined by co-stars Shaina Magdayao, Sid Lucero, and Ai-Ai delas Alas. He was asked how it felt working with them again after several years.
“Wala po akong masabi sa kanila kasi minsan pag hindi ako makaiyak, hindi ako maka-emphatize (relate) sa character kinukuha ko mga kamay nila.
“Minsan hindi ko na hinihingi hahawakan na nila ako, kakausapin ako ni Ms. Ai Ai at yayakapin, si Shaina rin sabi niya pag kailangan mo ang kamay ko nandito lang ako. Si Sid din, hindi na nila kailangang gawin pero they’re always there for me,” said JM.
Observers also noted the actor’s noticeably lighter aura during the event, which he warmly acknowledged with a smile and gratitude. While some attribute his positive transformation to his relationship with Donnalyn Bartolome, who reportedly inspired him to venture into business, JM emphasized that the change ultimately came from within.
According to his handler from Star Magic, the actor has made significant progress, showing renewed passion for his craft and a strong commitment to personal growth.
