Jonvic Remulla Warning Against “Geng-geng,” “Rugby Boys”: “Magtago na kayo”

Jonvic Remulla stressed the implementation of the enhanced curfew ordinances

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla had this warning against “geng-geng” and “rugby boys” regarding the enhanced curfew ordinances.

It is a nightly tradition in many areas in the Philippines for people to spend time on the streets hanging around with friends, having parties, or just having a simple get-together.

However, in some instances, accidents, crimes, and untoward incidents happen on the streets, especially at night.

In a recent statement before the media, Sec. Jonvic Remulla said that members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are now ordered to implement the ordinances of local government units (LGUs) against drinking in public places and the use of videoke beyond 10 p.m., within Metro Manila, based on the report in Manila Bulletin.

“Drinking along the streets are usually the cause of street fights and even sexual harassment, but from now on, we will be prohibiting it. If you hold drinking sessions inside your residence, not a problem, but if it’s in public places, you would be in trouble,” the DILG Secretary said.

Remulla pointed out that at times, having videoke sessions even in the wee hours was the cause of conflicts between neighbors, and would sometimes lead to troubles. He said that complainants can call 911 and expect that policemen will respond.

The government official also said that the curfew for minors will be strictly implemented. He said that the streets are being turned into a haven for “rugby boys” and “geng-geng” or gang members.

He said that if these minors are not in school or not working but still on the streets at 10 p.m., they should be punished.

Bawal na kayo sa kalye after 10 pm. Umuwi na kayo sa mga bahay niyo. Ok, yung mga rugby boys diyan, yung mga geng-geng diyan, mga g*go sa kalye diyan, magtago na kayo, umuwi na kayo pag 10 o’clock, huhulihin namin kayo,” Sec. Jonvic Remulla said.
