Sen. Robin Padilla Disappointed over Former Pres. Duterte’s Continued ICC Detention
ROBIN PADILLA – The Duterte ally Senator spoke on the continued detention of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte under the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The camp of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte previously claimed that they might asked the ICC again for his interim release. The foreign court recently junked the interim release appeal of the former Chief Executive.
Duterte waived his right to personally appear at the hearing held by the ICC last November 28 over his interim release appeal. He signed a waiver and he was represented by his legal counsel, British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman.
Kaufman stressed that they did their best for the interim release of the former President. Then, he claimed that they might appeal for his client’s interim release again after the releasing of Duterte’s medical reports.
Shortly after the interim release appeal of Duterte was rejected by the ICC, Kaufman confirmed that they received the former President’s medical reports but it’s still confidential. The foreign court ordered the former President to undergo a medical checkup after his lawyer claimed that he is allegedly unfit to stand trial.
The decision of the International Criminal Court on the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was met with different reactions. As for the Duterte family, they accept the ICC ruling on the interim release appeal of the former President “with open hearts”.
Back in the Philippines, several allies of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte wants a house arrest for the 80-year-old former President. One of them is Sen. Robin Padilla.
Sen. Robin Padilla is a member of the so-called Duterte bloc in the Senate. He’s vocal about his loyalty to the former President. He even campaigns for his daughter, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, for the presidency in the 2028 Elections.
Recently, based on a post of News5 on social media, Sen. Robin Padilla expressed his disappointment over the continued ICC detention of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. According to him, it is scary if God Himself will avenge for the former President.
“Nakakatakot kapag ang nag-iisang Diyos na ang gumanti… You are crucifying an 80-year-old man, you denied him the house arrest that the Filipinos are demanding,” the Senator said.
Previously, following the interim release plea ruling of the foreign court, Nicholas Kaufman revealed that the former President wants to spend Christmas with his family but the Duterte family may not be allowed to visit him on Christmas day.
