Sylvia Sanchez was emotional during a recent press conference

Veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez, who is now a movie producer, admitted her family’s “emotional downtime.”

Sylvia has been in the entertainment industry for many years already. In recent years, she ventured into producing movies through her production company, Nathan Studios, which has an entry for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025, titled I’mPerfect.

In a press conference for this movie, based on the article in Abante, Sylvia admitted that this movie was expensive to make, but first and foremost, she already wanted to produce this kind of film.

The movie featured two lead stars with Down syndrome. She shared that from day one, she did not hesitate. “Meron akong nakakausap. Lumaki ako na ‘yung best friend ko, may down syndrome. Meron akong pamangkin na may cerebral palsy,” Sylvia Sanchez said.

She stressed that these people should feel that other people are proud of them and not laugh at them. “Dapat silang ipagmalaki, At pumunta sa akin, heto na ‘yung movie na hindi ko bibitawan. Ito ‘yung movie na mag-o-open sa lahat,” she shared, adding that her heart was too soft for this.

Sylvia also said that she made the right choice with the lead stars and the rest of the cast members. She shared that at a young age, her children were already used to interacting with people with Down syndrome.

The veteran actress even said that in the office of her son, Congressman Arjo Atayde, there was a staff member with Down syndrome.

Hindi namin ‘to ginawa para magpasikat. Hindi namin ‘to ginawa para purihin. At gusto naming sabihin sa inyo na tanggapin natin silang lahat dahil tao rin sila. Karapat-dapat silang mahalin,” she said.

Sylvia Sanchez went emotional during the press conference because of what her family is going through, and during these tough times, they were surrounded by differently-abled people.

“During our downtime, emotionally downtime ng pamilya, meron kaming 10 anghel na naka-cover sa amin. Hindi lang sila, pati pamilya nila. ‘Yun pala ang rason. Nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos. At lahat sila na kinuha namin, nakabantay sa amin. May rason ang pelikulang ‘to,” the veteran actress said.

Even though Sylvia did not elaborate on this, it was quite obvious that this had something to do with the issue of flood control projects in which Arjo’s name is being dragged. Previously, the actor-politician expressed that he was ready to prove his innocence.
