Naga Mayor Leni Robredo’s Office Becomes Temporary Shelter for “Uwan” Victims

LENI ROBREDO’S OFFICE – The Naga City Mayor’s Office turned into a temporary evacuation facility amid the typhoon “Uwan”.

Even if “Uwan” has weakened, several areas in Luzon and Visayas remained at risk for life-threatening storm surge. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned the residents of 30 areas in Luzon and Visayas to stay away from coastal areas and cancel all marine activities amid the onslaught of the typhoon.

“Uwan” has turned into a super typhoon while it was battering the Philippine areas. Signal no. 5 was previously raised and it urged massive preparations against the typhoon. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously claimed that all state agencies are on a “full alert” and moves quickly for the safety of everyone.

Massive preemptive evacuation efforts were conducted. Residents who were living near the coastal areas were temporarily evacuated amid the risk for storm surge. The country is currently under a national state of calamity.

Marcos Jr. placed the entire Philippines under a national state of calamity following the wrath of Typhoon Tino and the then-looming super typhoon “Uwan”. He approved the proposal of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).

Despite the weakening of “Uwan” from being a super typhoon into typhoon, PAGASA raised signal no. 4 in several areas such as the following:

  • the southwestern portion of Isabela (Cordon, City of Santiago, Echague, Jones, San Agustin, San Guillermo, San Isidro, Alicia, Angadanan, Ramon, San Mateo, City of Cauayan, Benito Soliven, Naguilian, Reina Mercedes, Luna, Cabatuan, Aurora, San Manuel, Roxas, Mallig, Quirino, Burgos, Gamu, Quezon)
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • the southern portion of Kalinga (City of Tabuk, Tanudan, Tinglayan, Pasil, Lubuagan)
  • Mountain Province
  • the southern portion of Abra (Tubo, Luba, Boliney, Villaviciosa, Pilar, Daguioman, Bucloc, Manabo, San Isidro, San Quintin, Pidigan)
  • Ifugao

Naga is one of the cities in the Philippines that was affected by Typhoon “Uwan” and some residents had to leave their houses for safety. Based on a post of News5, amid the wrath of Uwan, Naga Mayor Leni Robredo’s office turned into a temporary evacuation facility amid the calamity.

Mayor Leni Robredo’s office was spotted temporarily housing some residents and they have foams and mats in the floor as well as electric fans. Based on the post, there is also a power supply in the Mayor’s Office.

Amid the wrath of Typhoon Uwan, the members of the press continued to deliver. A cameraman of News5 also took the challenge to deliver news for the first time and it caught the attention of celebrity news reporter Gretchen Ho.
