Mariel Padilla Defends Robin Padilla From Issues About Raising A Middle Finger

Here’s what Mariel Padilla said about her husband’s issue.

Senator Robin Padilla has already explained the issue, and his wife, Mariel Padilla, amid the buzz, reacted and defended him.

Did Senator Robin Padilla raise a middle finger while singing the national anthem inside the Senate? Many were shocked to see a blurry photo of the senator, and allegations have quickly spread online. The judgments of people online against the senator came just as swiftly as the allegations were made.

The video quickly drew public attention, sparking mixed reactions. Many were quick to label it offensive, while others, despite the clear footage of his gesture, chose to defend the actor-senator.

In a previous article, Padilla explained the middle finger issue and also uploaded clearer versions of the photos.

He explained that he cannot do something as vulgar as what he was accused of. He even expressed that he’d rather die than do this kind of disrespect to his faith. He added, “Gusto ko pong iparating sa inyong lahat, ito po ay banal sa aming mga Muslim, sapagkat ito po ang ibig sabihin, walang ibang diyos na dapat sambahin, maliban kay Allah.”

Recently, his wife, Mariel Padilla, also came to defend him from the false accusations. He backed the senator, saying, “To claim he disrespects the flag is unfair.”

He is accordingly too proud to be a Filipino to even do this gesture in front of the flag. She explained that he was reciting the “Kalima” during the national anthem. This signifies a declaration of faith for Muslims like him, affirming his devotion to Allah. What her husband did also did not violate Republic Act No. 8491.

She clarified, “This is not an act of disrespect but a personal expression of faith, while at the same time standing in honor of our country.”
