Mariel Padilla shared her thoughts on the recent issue about her husband
Celebrity mom Mariel Padilla defended her husband Senator Robin Padilla against the negative reactions because of his alleged “dirty finger” while singing the National Anthem during the plenary session of the Senate of the Philippines.
Sen. Robin’s photos from the livestream circulated online, and this garnered negative reactions from the online community, with the assumption that he was sticking out his middle finger.
Netizens bashed him for allegedly disrespecting the country. Amid the negative reactions, the Senator clarified that he was not doing the dirty finger.

A clearer version of the image was shared on social media, and it showed that the actor-politician was his index finger.
Mariel Padilla also defended her husband against the negative comments. She stressed that her husband is a Muslim and this is how Muslims do during the singing of the National Anthem.
“My husband is a devout Muslim and a proud Filipino. During the national anthem, he recites the Kalima – the Muslim declaration of faith, affirming his devotion to Allah. This is not an act of disrespect but a personal expression of faith, while at the same time standing in honor of our country,” she said.
Mariel also cited Republic Act No. 8491, which stated that “persons shall execute a salute by placing their right palms over their left chests. Those in military, scouting, citizens’ military training, and security guard uniforms shall give the salute prescribed by their regulations.”
The celebrity vlogger also stressed that no law was broken, and it was unfair that her husband was accused of disrespecting the Philippine flag.
Mariel Padilla highlighted that her husband is one of the most patriotic people and that he even travels with the Philippine flag in his luggage, and he hangs it in their hotel room wherever they are.
“His faith and patriotism are not in conflict. Serving Allah strengthens his love and service to the Philippines,” Mariel said.
