The 15-year-old student in Isabela City, Basilan is now recovering in a hospital after being badly beaten by fellow students for refusing to smoke. The violent incident has sparked anger and concern from the public.
The incident happened around 8 p.m. on June 27, 2025. The student was reportedly punched and kicked by schoolmates who pressured him to smoke. After refusing, he was assaulted so severely that he began vomiting and urinating blood.

The victim was initially taken to a local hospital in Isabela City but was later transferred to Zamboanga City for further medical attention. A CT scan was done, and the family is now waiting for the results.
Thanks to the combined efforts of the BNHS school head, local youth advocate @iamMujiv, and FBMAC, the students involved have already been identified. They are minors as well and reportedly share similar family and social backgrounds.
Authorities are calling for immediate intervention not only for the victim but also for the suspects.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is being urged to step in and provide proper support. There is also a growing call for elected officials in Basilan to take a more active role in addressing these issues in schools.
Bullying and illegal drug use continue to be serious problems in many communities. What happened in Isabela City is a reminder that schools need stronger protection systems for students.
