DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla Submits Ombudsman Application
REMULLA – The Department of Justice Secretary confirmed that he informed President Bongbong Marcos about his application for ombudsman.
Ombudsman Samuel Martires is set to retire from work this July 27. Thus, his office previously set a period for the acceptance of applications for the position. The office is an independent body that investigates complaints against the government officials.

Department of Justice or DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla is one of those who expressed an intent to apply for Ombudsman. According to him, he believes that he has a lot to offer for the position.
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has set July 4 as the deadline of the online applications for the position of Ombudsman. Ahead of the deadline, the DOJ Secretary submitted his application for the position.

Based on a report on PhilStar, DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla submitted his application for Ombudsman on Thursday, a day ahead of the deadline set by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC). He also confirmed that he has informed Pres. Bongbong Marcos about his plan to apply for the position.

According to Remulla, the JBC would still have to evaluate all the applications for the position of the Ombudsman. The Justice Secretary also claimed that he is not aware as to the number of applicants for the position.
DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla is one of the Cabinet secretaries retained by Pres. Bongbong Marcos in his position. Previously, following the 2025 Midterm Elections, the Chief Executive called among his Cabinet secretaries for their courtesy resignation.
Marcos Jr. wanted to align the government to the demands of the people. He stressed that the checking of the performances of the government officials will be a continuing thing and the whole government is under probation.
The President retained two (2) Remullas as member of his Cabinet — the DOJ Secretary and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Jonvic Remulla. Based on the report, the Chief Executive will appoint the Ombudsman based on the shortlist of at least three (3) applicants submitted by the JBC.
According to the DOJ Chief, he is confident that the justice department will be in good hands if he will be chosen as the Ombudsman. Recently, the DOJ Secretary announced the fate of 15 police officers who were involved in the case of missing sabungeros.
