The soured relationship between Marcos Jr. and Duterte was even more triggered by the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte in March 11. The President was blamed for allowing the arrest of his predecessor as well as the transfer of his custody to the International Criminal Court.

Recently, following the 2025 Elections, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said he is open to reconcile with the Duterte family.
