Father Receives Son’s Medal After He Misses Bus
A father touches many hearts as he accepts his son’s medal during a school recognition ceremony after the boy missed the bus.
Recently, Shakespeare Julpha Macapili, a Facebook user, shared a heartwarming moment at a school recognition event when a father, Tatay Salvador, walked up the stage to receive his son’s medal. His son, Moises, wasn’t able to attend because he missed the bus on the way to school.
“Hindi po nakarating ang kanyang anak dahil naiwan siya ng bus at wala na siyang masakyan papunta sa paaralan, Tumutulong po kasi siya sa paghahanapbuhay sa kanyang mga magulang kaya napalayo siya ng pinuntahan,” Macapili said.
Though Tatay Salvador smiled as he accepted the medal and certificate, you could still see the sadness in his eyes. It was clear he wished his son could have been there to enjoy the moment they both worked so hard for.
Moises is known to be hardworking not just in school but also in helping his family earn a living. Because of his dedication to work, he traveled far and unfortunately missed the last available ride to school on recognition day.
Teacher Macapili shared that the father and son work hand in hand to support their family, and their story moved many. Moises had even told his sibling not to let their father go to school since he couldn’t make it.
But excited and proud, Tatay Salvador had already left home early, unaware of his son’s change of plans. With no cellphone, he couldn’t be contacted.
When offered the chance to wear the medal, Tatay Salvador politely declined. He believed that only Moises deserved to wear it, as it was his effort and dedication that earned the award. He insisted he would be the one to personally place the medal around his son’s neck.
“Ayaw nga po ni tatay na isabit namin sa kanya ang medal ni Moises kasi para raw sa kanya, ang anak ang naghirap mag-aral kaya anak lang niya ang karapat-dapat na sabitan ng parangal. Siya raw mismo ang magsasabit ng medal kay Moises,” the teacher added.
To make up for the missed moment, the school arranged a special recognition event just for Moises and his father. It was a simple but meaningful gesture to honor the hard work and love shared between them.
