Teacher Speaks Up After Defending Students From Rude School Principal During Graduation
The brave teacher who defended the students from a rude school principal during a viral graduation finally speaks up.
A teacher from Col. Ruperto Abellon National School has caught the attention of many online after he bravely stood up during a graduation ceremony to speak with the school principal. The incident happened after the principal reportedly asked some students to remove their togas during the ceremony, upsetting both the graduates and their parents.
Lu Nietes, who has been teaching at the school, shared his side of the story. According to him, he stepped in to calm the situation and remind everyone what the occasion was about celebrating the students’ achievements.

“At that very moment, I wasn’t thinking about it, na, I was a hero. At that very moment, I was only thinking na moment to ng mga learners at parents so dapat i-celebrate nila yun,” Lu said.
The brave educator wasn’t thinking of being a hero at that moment. His only concern was that the moving-up ceremony should remain special for the learners and their families who had worked hard to reach that day.
He knew there might be consequences for speaking out, but he felt it was the right thing to do.

Teacher Lu also took the chance to send a message to the students. While he defended them in the ceremony, he also reminded them to always show respect to teachers and school authorities. This came after one of the students shouted at the principal during the program.
Nietes stressed the importance of staying respectful, developing self-discipline, and learning from mistakes.
“Sa mga learners natin, be respectful pa rin sa mga people in authority. Very important yan. You have to continuously develop self-discipline. Continue to make mistakes and learn from your mistakes,” he added.
The educator’s care for his students has earned praise from people across the country, with many calling him a role model for educators. His actions show that teachers are not only here to teach, but also to guide, protect, and stand by their students.
