Sen. Risa Hontiveros Urges Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero To Call For All-Senator Caucus
HONTIVEROS – The Senator expressed support on the stance of Sen. Koko Pimentel that nothing stops the Senate from tacking the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Four (4) impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The complaints include citations of the Confidential Funds spending issue of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) which is and was under Duterte’s leadership.

A few weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Two-thirds of the lawmakers in the House including presidential son and Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos signed the impeachment raps against Duterte.
Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte filed a petition to the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the 4th impeachment complaint filed against her. Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was one of the lawyers who signed the said petition.

Countless people currently await the Senate to act on the impeachment raps against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Previously, Senate President Chiz Escudero said that the Senate won’t force to Duterte to face the impeachment trial.

Recently, Sen. Risa Hontiveros urged Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero to call for an all-senator caucus to discuss the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, the lady Senator also expressed her support on the stand of Sen. Koko Pimentel that nothing is stopping the upper chamber from tackling the impeachment trial.
“In my opinion, based on what Senator Koko (Pimentel) is saying and my understanding of what is discussed in the Constitution, there is nothing stopping us from tackling the Articles of Impeachment and acting as an impeachment court,” Hontiveros said.
Based on the report, the Senator further said that “even though the Senate has adjourned its regular session, it doesn’t mean it cannot proceed and fulfill its duties in the impeachment trial”.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros reportedly backs the stance of Sen. Koko Pimentel that the Constitution orders the immediate commencement of the impeachment trial whether or not the upper chamber is in session.
“I am hopeful that the all-senators caucus will push through so we can discuss whether to proceed with the impeachment trial. SP mentioned that it might be scheduled for June when sessions resume, but I believe it’s possible to hold it earlier than June,” Hontiveros said.
Previously, Malacañang said that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will be in an awkward position if he will request for a special session to the Senate. The Palace cited the rumors that the President is allegedly behind the impeachment raps of Vice Pres. Duterte.
