Mini-Bus Crashes Off Bridge in Calumpit, Bulacan: 2 Dead, 18 Injured
MINI-BUS – A mini-bus reportedly “flew off” a bridge along MacArthur Highway in Calumpit, Bulacan, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries.
A tragic accident occurred along the MacArthur Highway in Calumpit, Bulacan, when a mini-bus reportedly lost its brakes, collided with a tricycle, and “flew off” a bridge, leaving two dead and 18 injured.
The Calumpit Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) confirmed the fatalities, identifying the victims as the driver and the lone passenger of the tricycle. Rescue teams promptly responded to the scene, as captured in videos circulating online, which also showed the grim aftermath of the crash.
Among the injured, seven were students from Bulacan State University (BulSU), according to BulSU Student Government President Queenie Quintero. Most victims were rushed to the Bulacan Medical Center, with authorities continuing to determine the exact number of students involved in the accident.
The collision occurred when the mini-bus allegedly lost its brakes while traversing the busy highway. Losing control, the vehicle struck the tricycle before careening off the bridge. The impact left the tricycle mangled and the bus severely damaged.
The incident has drawn significant attention, sparking calls for stricter enforcement of vehicle safety standards and enhanced traffic regulations in the area. Families of the victims, as well as concerned citizens, are urging local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the brake failure and assess accountability.
