House Secretary General Speaks on VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Complaints
SARA DUTERTE – House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed that the impeachment complaints are ready to be transmitted to the House Speaker’s office.
In 2024, three (3) impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Duterte by the different groups of complainants. The complaints cited the questionable spending of the Confidential Funds of the OVP or the Office of the Vice President.
Aside from the questions on the Confidential Funds spending of the OVP, there are also queries on the spending of the Confidential Funds of the Department of Education (DepEd).
The first impeachment complaint was endorsed by Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña while the second impeachment complaint was endorsed by the Makabayan bloc lawmakers.
Behind the third impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte are members of the religious groups and lawyers. As per a survey of the Social Weather Station or SWS, 41% of Filipinos support the impeachment of Vice Pres. Duterte.
Recently, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco spoke on the impeachment complaints against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the House Secretary General said that the complaints are ready to be transmitted to the Office of House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
However, according to Velasco, she is giving some lawmakers until next week for the possible fourth impeachment complaint against Duterte. The House Secretary General is set to discuss it with the House leaders.
“I have to respect my commitment to them…. I’ll have to talk with the House members na nag-request sa akin ng time to study the three complaints or consider filing another complaint, a new complaint,” Velasco said.
The House Secretary General denied that he is just letting the impeachment complaints sit citing that he waited for other complaints. The Secretary General said that she is just avoiding situations wherein the other impeachment complaints cannot be transmitted anymore as the other complaints have already been transmitted.
