Senators react to the rumors that there’s a plot to oust Chiz Escudero from being the senate president.
Are there senators plotting to remove Senate President Chiz Escudero from his current position? Here are the statements.
On May 20 of this year, Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero took over the reins of being the senate president from Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” F. Zubiri. He was joined by his wife, actress Heart Evangelista as he was sworn into his new position by the youngest senator in the Senate, Sen. Mark Villar.
Roughly seven months in this position, rumors about a coup plot to oust him as senate president emerged. Several senators were and all denied that there was such a plot being held against Escudero.
“Wala ‘yun, rumors lang yun. CHIZmis lang ‘yun, kasi so far okay naman ang performance, I think. Satisfied naman karamihan ng senators [at] marami namang natapos [at] kailangang tapusin so I don’t think there’s a truth to that rumor,” says Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito.
Ejercito added that it is hard to pursue a change of leadership at the moment and Escudero’s knowledge as a lawyer will come in handy in case an impeachment is brought to the Senate for trial.
Senator Cynthia Villar, the rumored main beneficiary of the alleged plot, also denied it saying, “Tapos na ang Senado, manggugulo pa tayo.”
Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. also belied the rumors saying it was just fake news. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also said this is not true, however, there was a plot a month ago.
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa also denied this saying he would have known since he is close with Villar.
