WALANG PASOK – Several local government units declared class suspensions in some areas due to Severe Tropical Storm Nika.
On Monday, (November 11, 2024), several regions in Luzon have suspended classes with Severe Tropical Storm Nika approaching and expected to make landfall in Isabela or northern Aurora.
Nika, which was last spotted at 1,620 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, continues to intensify, potentially reaching typhoon status. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour and gustiness of up to 55 kph.
The tropical cyclone is expected to make landfall over Northern or Central Luzon on Thursday (14 November) evening or Friday (15 November) early morning.
To ensure safety, various areas across Luzon have announced class suspensions at different levels. Here’s a breakdown of the affected regions:
National Capital Region (NCR)
- All levels: Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City
- Face-to-face only: Valenzuela
- Kinder to Grade 12 only: Makati
Cordillera Administrative Region
- All levels: Baguio City
- Kinder to Grade 12: Paracelis and Bontoc in Mountain Province
Ilocos Region
- All levels: Pangasinan
Cagayan Valley
- Kinder to Grade 12: Santo Niño, Cagayan
- All levels, including offices: Echague, Isabela
Central Luzon
- All levels: Various towns in Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Tarlac
- Kinder to Grade 12: San Jose del Monte, Bulacan
CALABARZON
- All levels: Laguna
- Coastal towns: Nasugbu, Batangas City, Lucban, and Polillo Islands in Quezon and Batangas provinces
Bicol Region
- All levels: Camarines Sur and Virac, Catanduanes
- Specific towns: Guinobatan, Bacacay, and Tiwi in Albay (in-person classes restricted for younger students)
