PAGASA Says Tropical Depression Nika to Affect PH Weather Condition
PAGASA UPDATE – The state weather bureau raised signal no. 1 was raised in Catanduanes due to Tropical Depression Nika.
On Saturday noon (November 9, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest update on Tropical Depression Nika after entering the country’s vicinity.
PAGASA reported that a low-pressure area, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Saturday morning has strengthened into a tropical depression. The tropical depression has been named Nika.
Nika was spotted at 1,145 km east of southeastern Luzon packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It is expected to move generally west-northwestward.
The tropical depression may reach the severe tropical storm category by Monday (November 11, 2024) as it is expected to make landfall over Isabela or Aurora.
“This tropical cyclone is forecast to gradually intensify and may reach severe tropical storm category by Monday (11 November) morning prior to landfall,” PAGASA said.
Currently, PAGASA raised signal no. 1 was raised in Catanduanes. The northeasterly wind flow will bring strong to gale-force gusts over Batanes, northern Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte on Sunday (November 10, 2024).
Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected from Sunday to Monday noon over Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.
Nika will also bring intense to torrential rains over Cagayan, Apayao, and Isabela, heavy to intense rainfall over Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Aurora, moderate to heavy rains over Ifugao and Quirino from Monday noon to Tuesday (November 12, 2024).
The tropical cyclone is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning (November 13, 2024).
