Election 2025 Senatorial Race To Include Doc Willie Ong amid Cancer Bout
Doc Willie Ong announced that he will run for senator in the May 2025 Election and his wife will file the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for his behalf.
The cancer announcement of Doc Willie left countless Filipinos sad but hopeful that he will recover. He was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that is hard to treat. According to the cardiologist, his doctors told him that they cannot perform an operation on his lump because there are too many blood vessels attached to it.
Doc Willie is undergoing chemotherapy session in Singapore. In his previous vlogs, he was vocal that he wants the Filipino people to avail the kind of healthcare system that Singapore has.
The 16-centimeter mass cancer of Doc Willie Ong was found “deeply hidden” behind his heart, in front of his spine. It is blocking his esophagus thus, one of the signs he felt was the difficulty in swallowing.
Following his cancer revelation, prayers and messages of love flooded for Doc Willie on social media. However, according to Doc Willie, he honestly does not want the Filipinos to pray for him.
Doc Willie is accompanied and taken cared of by his wife, Dra. Liza Ramoso-Ong, in Singapore. He has repeatedly stressed that he is okay now despite the 50-50 prognosis of his cancer. In an interview with Jessica Soho, the cardiologist said that there is a 50% chance that he will live a few more months to a year and a 50% chance that he might die anytime.
Previously, the cardiologist expressed his belief that his negative feelings and thoughts from the bashings he got during the 2022 Elections might have caused his disease. He ran for vice president and finished the race 4th.
A few days ago, speculations that Doc Willie Ong may be running in the next election crossed the surface. It was after he told the Filipinos in a vlog that everything that he will do is for the people. According to him, even his doctors does not know his plan as they might get mad at him for it.
Recently, Doc Willie Ong confirmed that he is running for senator in the 2025 Midterm Election. In a Facebook Live, the cardiologist revealed that he will file his COC for senator through his wife, Doc Liza.
“Magpa-file po ako for senator. I’ll be filing for senator on October 2, Wednesday. Nagawa ko na ‘yung papeles, na-notarize ko na…Si Doc Liza…siya magpa-file ng sa akin pero ako ang tatakbo,” the cardiologist said.
Amid his cancer battle, several politicians reached out to Doc Willie.
