Leni Robredo Opens Home in Naga To Visitors of “Ina” amid Peñafrancia Festival Celebration
BENHUR ABALOS – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary and Senator Bong Revilla also visited former Vice President Leni Robredo in Naga City.
One of the most popular festivals in the Philippines is the Peñafrancia Festival which is celebrated in Naga. It gathers not only the locals of the city but as well as several devotees of “Ina” from the different places. One of the popular political personalities who has a home in Naga is former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo.
Naga is the bailwick of Robredo. The Robredo family is living in the city for decades already and their late patriarch, former interior secretary Jesse Robredo, has served as mayor of Naga City for several years.
Jesse is one beloved mayor of the people of Naga. He is known for his simplicity and he is often spotted just wearing his “tsinelas” or slippers as he roams around the city on ordinary days. His death has led his widow to enter the political arena.
When the late former President Noynoy Aquino assumed his post, his appointed Jesse Robredo to lead the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). However, in 2012, Jesse died.
A plane crash in Masbate Bay ended the life of Jesse Robredo. He is survived by his wife, Leni Robredo who became the country’s vice president, and their three (3) daughters, Aika, Tricia, and Jillian.
Leni Robredo won the 2016 vice presidential election and has helped more people through the programs under the Office of the Vice President. She ran for president in 2022 but she lost.
Although her name is one of those in the political arena now, amid the Peñafrancia Festival, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo asserted that there are no political colors when it comes to the celebration for “Ina”.
Based on a report on GMA News, interior Sec. Benhur Abalos visited former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo in her residence in Naga. Senator Bong Revilla also visited the former VP in her home.
Meanwhile, amid the questions and speculations, based on the report, former Vice Pres. Robredo stressed that anyone who visits “Ina” is also welcome to their family’s home. She stressed that she is already used to it since her husband, Jesse, became mayor in 1988.
“‘Pag Peñafrancia dito sa amin, wala naman kulay ng pulitikang tinitingnan. Walang partido... Lahat ng pumupunta para kay Ina ay welcome dito sa amin,” the former Vice President said.
Aside from DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos and Sen. Bong Revilla, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also visited former VP Leni Robredo in her house. The said visit which lasted for an hour was confirmed by both parties.
