Graduating Student in Bacolod Robbed of P49,000 Meant for Tuition
BACOLOD – A graduating student’s dream was thrown into uncertainty after a lone thief stole her hard-earned tuition funds at knifepoint.
A graduating college student in Bacolod City was robbed of P49,000 — an amount intended to pay tuition fees for her and her cousin — in a street robbery that occurred near the Colegio de San Agustin on the evening of May 8, 2025.
The victim, identified only as “Inday” for privacy reasons, was walking along 18th Lacson Street near a gas station in Barangay 5 at around 6:45 PM when the incident took place. According to her statement, she was returning to her dormitory after buying dinner when a man suddenly approached and threatened her with a knife.

The assailant, wearing a black cap and surgical mask, demanded her belongings, including a plastic bag containing food, groceries, and her wallet with the large sum of cash. The suspect quickly fled the scene after taking the bag, leaving Inday in shock and unable to call for help.
The P49,000 was reportedly sent to Inday specifically for tuition fees due soon for both her and her cousin. She said the loss was a heavy blow to their efforts to complete their education. Despite often using that route without incident, she now feels unsafe and traumatized by the experience.
Following the robbery, Inday immediately informed her parents and went to Bacolod Police Station 2 to file a report. She also appealed for stronger police presence in the area, particularly around schools and dormitories, to prevent similar incidents from happening to other students.
The case underscores the risk students face when carrying significant sums of money for school-related expenses. It also raises concerns about the security measures in place near academic institutions, especially during the evening when students may be walking alone.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, but as of now, the suspect remains at large.
