PAGASA Says LPA and Habagat to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that a low-pressure area will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Friday (September 20, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. A low-pressure area and habagat will bring rain over parts of the country.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja reported that a Low Pressure Area was spotted at 745 kilometers east Southeast of Itbayat, Batanes. It would be named Igme once it develops into a tropical cyclone.

“Based on our track, the said weather disturbance will move northwest over Taiwan and we are not ruling out that it will become a tropical depression,” Estareja said.

We are expecting this to intensify into a tropical depression over this weekend,” he added.

The southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with rain over parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Ilocos Region, Samar Island, and Visayas. Flash floods or landslides are possible in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Habagat will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao. The localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions over Mindanao.

Possible flash floods or landslides are expected during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the western section of Luzon will be moderate to rough. The remaining parts of the country will have slight to moderate surrounding sea conditions, according to PAGASA.

Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions,” PAGASA said.

Vessel masters, boat captains, ship owners/operators, and coast guard units concerned are advised to take appropriate measures to ensure safety of life at sea,” Estareja added.
