Ombudsman Files Charges vs. Sen. Jinggoy Estrada over Alleged Flood Control Corruption
JINGGOY ESTRADA – The Ombudsman filed plunder and graft charges against the Senator over the alleged flood control kickback he received amounting to over P573 million.
Several government officials were tagged in the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption in the Philippines. Many of them were officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and some have reportedly been relieved from their posts.
Several members of the House of Representatives are also faced with accusations of alleged flood control corruption. Some senators and former senators’ names were also dragged in the issue.
In the Senate, senators Jinggoy Estrada, Chiz Escudero, and Joel Villanueva are the ones who are faced with alleged flood control corruption. When the issue broke out, Escudero was the sitting Senate President and he was ousted and replaced with Sen. Tito Sotto. The chamber recently had another leadership change.
Then, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada was the Senate President Pro Tempore. When the leadership changed, he became part of the minority. He is now back in the majority bloc after former Senate Pres. Tito Sotto was ousted and replaced with SP Alan Peter Cayetano.
Recently, the Ombudsman of the Philippines filed charges against Sen. Jinggoy Estrada. Based on a report of News5, the country’s anti-graft office filed plunder and graft charges against Estrada over an alleged multi-million flood control corruption.
Based on the report, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada is accused of allegedly receiving a kickback amounting to more than P573 million from the flood control projects of the government. According to the report, it was announced that the alleged payouts were supposedly “systematically delivered” to Estrada.
Aside from Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan and many others are also faced with flood control charges recently filed by the Ombudsman. In 2025, two (2) grand rallies were held in the Philippines as the Filipinos called for accountability from the government.
Malacanang assured that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is committed to bringing justice and accountability over the supposed flood control scam. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had launched flood control investigations.
Recently, Sen. Ping Lacson claimed that there is allegedly more than one mastermind in the flood control scam. Lacson led the investigation of the Senate on the issue being the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman then.
