22-Year-Old Woman Attacked by Own Cousin Due to Jealousy
A 22-year-old woman in Barangay Malasin, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija lost her life after she was allegedly attacked by her own cousin due to jealousy.
The gruesome crime happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The victim was a resident of Lupao, Nueva Ecija, while the suspect was identified as a 27-year-old man from San Jose City.
According to the San Jose City Police, the victim, the suspect, the victim’s boyfriend, and another friend were having drinks together before the tragic incident took place. After some time, the woman reportedly said she was hungry, and the suspect offered to take her somewhere to eat.
CCTV footage later showed the two leaving together on a motorcycle. Another camera captured them passing through a road leading toward an irrigation area.
Only a few minutes later, the suspect was seen returning alone on the motorcycle. The woman was no longer with him.
The following morning, joggers discovered the victim’s body beside the irrigation canal. Authorities said she suffered a serious wound at the back of her head, which investigators believe was caused by a hard object.
Police immediately launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. Through the recordings and follow-up operations, authorities were able to track down the suspect.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted that he struck the victim in the head with a rock because of jealousy. Investigators also learned that the suspect claimed he and the victim had a romantic relationship despite being first cousins.
“Sa tulong ng pinaigting na intelligence operation at koordinasyon sa mga kaanak ng biktima, natunton at naaresto rin ang suspek sa Cavite kung saan pansamantala itong nagtatago habang nagtatrabaho bilang construction worker,” PHPT-Laguna chief Maj Rodolfo Armea IV said.
The suspect is now under the custody of the San Jose City Police and is facing a murder complaint.
