The former vice president was in Naga for the Penafrancia Festival and accordingly, Duterte’s visit was “personal and not political”. Robredo was only informed of the current VP’s plan to visit when she was already on the way and the talk lasted for an hour.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, Robredo confirmed the meeting with Duterte and she was the one to say that the conversation was personal and not political.

As per the statement from the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Duterte was invited by a Bicolano friend to grace the centennial anniversary Mass of the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Peñafrancia and this same friend was also the one who arranged the meeting of the former and current VPs.

“During her stay in Naga, Vice President Duterte visited several prominent Bicol personalities and heard Mass with ordinary Bicolanos. She neither looked desperate nor distressed,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Robredo will be running as mayor for Naga City and this was confirmed by Liberal Party Executive Vice President Erin Tañada on Friday. Her mission is to continue the programs of her late husband, former Naga City mayor and Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.

Robredo ran for president in 2022 but came in second to Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. PBBM’s running mate was Duterte but based on a previous article, Duterte expressed “never again” to teaming up with the Marcoses.

Robredo’s 2022 running mate then was former senator Kiko Pangilinan who will run for senator anew this coming 2025 midterm elections.
