PAGASA Says Habagat to Bring Rains Over Parts of the Country
PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the southwest monsoon will bring rains over parts of Luzon.
On Tuesday (August 20, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Habagat will affect the country’s weather conditions.
PAGASA specialist Rhea Torres reported that the Southwest Monsoon will bring cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over parts of extreme Northern Luzon.
The southwest monsoon will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Flash floods or landslides are possible in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. Generally, warm weather is expected nationwide despite the possibility of rain showers
“For the rest of the country and Metro Manila, asahan po natin ang mainit na tanghali at mainit na panahon liban na lamang sa mga biglaang buhos ng ulan,” said Torres.
“Most likely, magiging maaliwalas ang panahon at pagdating ng hapon o gabi ay may tiyansa ng localized thunderstorms,” she added.
Possible flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas during severe thunderstorms.
The weather agency is monitoring a Low-Pressure Area at 1,030 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon. It has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression and will not directly affect the country.
“Although nakikita natin dito sa may satellite image may namamataan po tayong mga kaulapan pero most likely hindi magtatagal ito,” Torres explained.
Meanwhile, the coastal water condition throughout the country will be slight to moderate. Pagasa did not raise any gale warning over any of the country’s seaboards.
