MMDA Proposes Early Work Hours to Ease Traffic Congestion

MMDA Issues Resolution Proposing Early Work Hours

MMDA issued a resolution aiming to adjust the work hours to ease the worsening traffic congestion in Metro Manila.

The Philippines, with its busy cities and growing population, faces big challenges when it comes to traffic management. From congested roads to inefficient public transportation systems, navigating through urban areas can often be a frustrating experience for commuters and motorists.

The rapid urbanization and increasing number of vehicles on the road contribute to gridlock during peak hours, especially in Metro Manila. This congestion not only leads to wasted time and productivity but also contributes to air pollution and environmental degradation.

While efforts have been made to address traffic issues, such as the implementation of coding schemes and the construction of elevated roadways, more comprehensive and sustainable solutions are needed.

It includes investing in mass transportation systems, improving road infrastructure, enforcing traffic rules and regulations, and implementing smart technologies for traffic management.

Recently, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has issued a resolution proposing adjustments to the work hours of all Local Government Units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to MMDA Resolution 24-08, the previous 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work schedule will be changed to 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The agency also encourages all national government agencies in the NCR to adopt the same adjusted working hours.

Furthermore, the MMDA recommends to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the issuance of an executive order for the implementation of the new schedule.

The agency stated that the resolution aims to improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila by spreading out the flow of vehicles throughout the day. By starting work earlier, employees can avoid peak traffic hours, reducing congestion on the roads.
