Video Clips During 6.8 Magnitude Quake in GenSan Surfaced Online

GENSAN EARTHQUAKE- The video clips during the powerful 6.8 magnitude quake in General Santos City surfaced online.

On Friday (November 17, 2023), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in parts of Mindanao. The powerful quake hit Davao Occidental and causes damage to some establishments in General Santos City.

Phivolcs said that the tremor happened around 4:14 p.m., 30 kilometers southwest of Sarangani in the province. The quake has a depth of focus of 10 kilometers and tectonic in origin.

Damages have been reported in various areas. No tsunami alert has been raised but the volcanology agency ruled out the possibility of a tsunami. Numerous aftershocks are still expected.

The seismology agency also released a date showing the intensities in the affected areas:

Several netizens shared videos capturing the horrifying moments inside a mall as mall-goers sought refuge under tables in a restaurant, crying for help amidst the intense tremors. Several sections of the mall ceiling collapsed due to the strong quake.

Out of fear, a mall shopper reportedly jumped from the mall’s second floor to the ground floor. The latter sustained minor injuries due to the incident.

Students from different schools were rushed to hospitals after experiencing nausea triggered by the earthquake. The intensity of the quake was reported to be at Level VIII in Glan, Sarangani, and General Santos City, according to Phivolcs.
