Kiosk Owners in Bacolod City Complains to Religious Playing of Praise and Worship Songs Near Their Businesses

Several kiosk owners in Bacolod City were protesting the performances of “praise and worship” songs on a stage set up right next to their businesses.

The owners of 25 kiosks along Gonzaga St. and Gatuslao St. along the iconic Halandumon Tower in Bacolod City expressed their dismay at a religious group performing “praise and worship” songs near the establishment.

The clash of interests between the kiosk owners and the Born Again Christian group has sparked a debate about public space usage, noise levels, and the rights of both parties involved.

According to one of the kiosk owners identified as Joy, their business revenues have taken a hit due to the intrusive performances of the Born Again Christian group. The group performs acoustic band shows and prayers.

The religious performances begin at 4 in the afternoon and continue until 9 in the evening. Afterward, they switch to playing worship songs until midnight.

The small business owners that the extended schedule of religious activities is impacting their customers. People are hesitant to visit their establishments, fearing they might be disrupted by the religious performances.

Joy and her fellow kiosk owners have appealed to the organizers of the “praise and worship” performances, requesting them to limit their activities to end at 9 p.m. The entrepreneurs are hoping that their customers will feel more comfortable patronizing their kiosks without being disturbed.

The Born Again Christian group, whose program is referred to as “Rejoice Bacolod,” is supported by various Born Again churches in the city. The program is scheduled to run until October 22, 2023.
