Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Zamboanga del Norte, August 18, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.3 magnitude quake in Zamboanga del Norte today, August 18, 2023.

Following the 4.0 magnitude earthquake in Davao Occidental last Wednesday, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. The quake hit Zamboanga del Norte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.3.

The earthquake today that struck Zamboanga del Norte today, Friday, August 18, 2023, at 01:15 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Baliguan.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Zamboanga del Norte was located at 07.87°North, 121.91°East – 027 km North 75° West of Baliguian. It had a depth of focus of 010 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. Instrumental Intensity II was recorded in Peñablanca and Gonzaga in Cagayan.
