5 Police to Face Charges Over Alleged Torture and Harassment Against a Teenager in Cebu
Five (5) police officers will face charges after being accused of torture and harassment against a female teenager in Cebu City.
Five Cebu City police officers and a police asset have been charged with torturing and assaulting a 19-year-old woman in the city. On September 19, last year, the police raided the house of the victim’s friend in Barangay San Nicolas.
When people began shouting, the teenager was left behind, according to the report. She was apprehended as a result. Instead of taking her to the police station, she was allegedly taken to an apartment where she was interrogated, tortured, and tormented.
According to an ABS-CBN report, the police used a broom and dustpan to repeatedly strike the victim’s hands. They allegedly threatened to strip her naked and drown her. In the early hours of September 22, she was allegedly groped by a police asset.
She was discharged the following day. The operation of the police was not legal, according to PLtCol Gerard Perare, spokesperson for the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Region 7. “These were done in their private or personal capacity because this is not how the PNP conducts its operations,” he explained in an interview.
According to Perare, the alleged accused cops are on probation and will be investigated in order to file an administrative complaint against them. However, the official noted that they are still seeking other people who may have been engaged in the crime.
The five officers were charged with kidnapping, serious illegal detention with harassment, and violating Section 5 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, according to Perare. Perare stated that corrupt officials will not be tolerated in their ranks.
